5 Tips to Improve Your Email Marketing

Despite what many bloggers may say, we can confirm here at Corrao Group that email marketing, in fact, is not dead- it’s actually growing. According to the The Radicati Group, worldwide will top 3 billion users by 2020. Not only is email marketing growing, but also it delivers the highest ROI over SEO, SEM, and content marketing (Econsultancy)

This just means it is going to get harder and harder to grab ahold of your audience’s attention. This means your email marketing strategy is going to become a critical key in how you run build your marketing campaigns. Let’s take a look at what email strategies you can start implementing today:

Tips to Improve Your Email Marketing

  1. Segment your list

Segmenting your lists allows you to send emails that are more targeted to your audience. Not only does it allow you to be more target, but segmented and targeted emails generate 58% of all revenue. (The Direct Marketing Association, 2015)

Here are some ways to segment your lists:

By Sales/Marketing Funnel – New Leads need to receive different content then a contact that is about to make a purchase. Segmenting by what stage they are in your journey will allow you to help them move through the journey

By Location – This allows you to send content for events or store locations to people who actually live in that area

By Industry: Different industries have different needs and wants. You also can tailor different customer stories to people in those industries

  1. Personalize your emails

Personalizing your emails is proven to work. The open rate for e-mails with a personalized message was 18.8%, as compared to 13.1%  without any personalization in 2016. (Source: Statista 2016)

Here are some way to personalize your emails:

Gather accurate data from your audience: The only way to personalize emails is by having the correct data. Some data fields to get:

  • First Name
  • Email
  • Interest
  • Source
  • Location

Dynamic Content: Sending the right content to your consumer based on the data you have acquired on this. This allows you to create one email that dynamically displays the content your audience wants to see

Merge Tags – Bring information you have on your client into the email like first name, company name, etc

  1. Test when to send your email

Do not send your email at the same time every week. Test to see when your audience is opening your emails and engaging with them. You want your message to get your target at the optimal time that they will read it. According to SeoPressor, the best day to send your email is on tuesday and the best time during the day is from 9-11am.

  1. A/B Testing

At the end of the day opens and click throughs are what you looking for with your email strategy. A little tweak to a subject line or a call to action could make a difference to your bottom line. When A/B testing remember to only make one little change at a time so you can quantify what is actually making that change. Here are some parts on your email you can A/B:

  • Subject Line
  • Call to actions
  • Personalizations  (Hi There vs. Hi John)
  • Sender ( Marketing@company.com vs. John@company.com)
  • Images
  • Offers ( Free Trial vs. 10% off)
  1. Automations

Setting up automations can save a whole lot of time for you while increasing your customer lifetime value and increasing conversions. By setting up lead nurturing campaigns and other marketing campaigns, you could have personalized email on autopilot with different stages and/or events triggering them. Marketing automation drives a 14.5% increase in sales productivity and a 12.2% reduction in marketing overhead. (CMO.com) and Businesses that use marketing automation to nurture prospects see a 451% increase in qualified leads (The Annuitas Group).

Here are some ideas for marketing automation campaigns you can be running:

  1. Welcome Series triggered from a blog subscriptions or account creations
  2. Abandoned Cart Series triggered when customer leaves the shopping cart without buying
  3. Gated Content download triggered email

Pardot Automation

How annoying is it when your voicemails go unreturned or your emails go in the spam folder? We found a solution that uses the unique connection between Salesforce and Pardot to to automatically send out print mail and follow up emails to contacts based on their business information as well as their point in the sales cycle. This resulted in a 35% increase in response rate and 16% increase in conversion rate. It also gets rid on the Spam Folder problem and helps build superior, more personal relationships with your prospects and customers.

How much time does it take you to manage the connection with existing customers, monitor and manage customer experience, and stay up to with their new product/service updates? Well, we built an product that includes a preconfigured Sales Scoring model and automations. Your system is smarter than you think and will alert you at the best time to reach a prospect based on previous history. This resulted in an increase in Sales Efficiency with Salesforce Engage templates, real time alerts and reports with Salesforce Engage, and ability to handle a larger pipeline with more predictable outcomes.

Sales Operations

How much time does it take you to make sure you have Sales ready emails templates for each stage in Sales? Automating your sales operations will save valuable time with consolidated Salesforce Engage templates per each stage in your Sales cycle. Above that it will allow you to know when to reach out with real time alerts from Salesforce Engage. The automation through Salesforce Engage resulted in a dramatic increase in Sales efficiency with Engage templates and real-time alerts and reporting dashboards. This gives you the ability to quickly process more opportunities .

Project Management

Are your Project Managers dealing with one too many projects that are forcing PM’s to chase down customers’ deliverables, schedule and reschedule meetings, and drown in emails? A solution we found was to utilize a Milestone-based system to provide templates, communication, and escalation alerts. This will keep your customers and partners in sync with integrated updates with a click on a button. The results include automatic task creation, automated business processes and the capability to update everyone on a project status with the click on one button.

Accounts Receivable

Is your accounting department constantly chasing down payments and stuck with the latent tasks having to make calls and follow up emails? Wouldn’t it be nice to automate this process to get cash into your company faster?  We have a powerful solution that auto-generates invoices directly from Salesforce, sends it to the customer, automatically checks in until payments are received, and combines Pardot’s tracking capabilities for reporting. This awesome solution has cut our Daily Sales Outstanding has been by 52%, a reduction for 10-12 hours per AR agent per month and accelerates your cashflow.   I know what you thinking, I NEED THIS IN MY COMPANY.

Five Reasons Why B2B Marketers Should be Taking Blogging Seriously

Blogging has become a crucial part of content marketing strategy. If you haven’t been regularly nurturing your relationship with prospects and customers with the help of a blog, you’ve been missing out! Recent industry surveys by The Content Marketing Institute estimate that 86% of B2B companies are currently blogging, along with 77% of B2C companies (source).

So, why do you want to be with the majority on this?

1. More Leads

According to recent data, B2B businesses that blog achieve 67% more monthly leads than those that do not (source). Blog posts that can help solve customer pain points will naturally attract quality leads. Make sure your content is relevant to a problem that your company solves well, which leads me to reason #2…

2. The Trust Factor

Blogs have been rated as the 5th most trusted source for accurate online information (source). Routine posts serve as effective means of indoctrination. Blogging shares the personality of your company and can turn potential prospects into loyal customers. If you understand your target audience, you can create content that speaks directly to them and builds a rock-solid relationship. If you need to learn more about your audience, the feedback you get from your blog will help you understand what content is most effective.

3. Increase Traffic to your Website

Internet users in the US spend 3x more time on blogs than they do on email! Studies report that blogging can increase web traffic toward your website by as much as 55%. And among companies that use email marketing, those that blog get twice as much traffic from their email than those who don’t (source). Increasing more traffic to your site means new unique visitors and lead generation, as well as increasing your page ranks on Google. That SEO will drive even more traffic to your website!

4. Blogging = HIGH ROI

Marketers who have prioritized blogging are 13X more likely to enjoy positive ROI (source). Blogging is a cheap way to bring in leads organically, and often those leads are of a better quality. As described in 1 and 2 above, if your blog can consistently provide valuable information, prospects will come your way and eventually be converted into loyal customers. Content search leads close x8 more than traditional leads (source).

5. Influence Decision Makers to buy

81% of B2B decision makers use online communities and blogs to help make purchasing decisions (source). People who find themselves on your blog are there because they are seeking solutions. Adding an effective call-to-action to your blog posts can create a sales opportunity right then and there. CTAs can be as simple as subscribing to the blog, sharing a post on social media, or downloading a whitepaper. You can also convert them to a customer by promoting your product!

How to Export your Leads & Contacts from Salesforce to Import into Pardot

Once your Salesforce connector is enabled in Pardot, the existing Salesforce leads and contacts do NOT automatically sync to Pardot. You will need to export your existing leads and contacts from Salesforce into a .CSV file.

Upon importing Contacts and Leads, Pardot will sync the prospect record with the existing Salesforce lead or contact record. If Pardot and Salesforce values differ when a data sync occurs, the value of the field in Salesforce will overwrite the value of the field in Pardot, unless you set field sync to “Use Pardot Value” on the individual field.

Run a Report of All Leads and Contacts in Salesforce

  1. Navigate to reports in Salesforce
  2. Click the Object you want to run your report on (ex. All Leads)
  3. Set your Date Field to ‘Created Date’ and your Range to ‘All Time’
  4. Makes sure all leads have the fields: Email address and CRM ID* (This field is “LeadID” if you are reporting on Leads,  and the field is “ContactID” if you are reporting on Contacts)
  5. Click Run Report, remember to save!

*Note – if you have multiple prospects with the same email, you must import CRM ID or else it will create duplicate leads in Pardot.

salesforce report

Export to CSV once report is run

Once you run the report you can press the Export Details button to export all contacts/leads to a CSV or Excel file. Open your CSV file and make sure all leads have email address because this is the unique identifier and is required to be able to create a prospect in Pardot. Now you are ready to import your leads and contacts into Pardot!
